Ammar, James, Stefan and Elpida. All doing an MSc in Cyber Security
Are any of you currently considering cybersecurity as a career? If so, what area?
Ammar: my long term plans would be to assume management roles, however at the onset I would like to gain experience in different fields of cyber security and then move forward in my career based on my identified strengths and interests acquired along this period
James: Looking to boost my knowledge and experience in ethical hacking with a view to a career change in at the end of my degree.
Stefan: I am trying to build a career on the technical area, such as Ethical Hacking or PENTesting.
Elpida: Currently looking for a career, especially in technical areas of Cyber Security (Penetration Testing, Ethical Hacking, Cyber Forensics, Application/Mobile Security, Malware Detection)
What CTFs have you competed in before?
Stefan: BAE CTF, November 2017
Elpida: BAE CTF (Applied Intelligence) at the University of York. November 2017
What are you looking forward to most at Inter-ACE?
Ammar: exposure to different aspects of cyber security, meeting new people and obtaining advice in regards to future career paths and the different specializations.
James: It will be a really good opportunity to share skills, knowledge and experience.
Stefan: Test and develop my skills, meet other people with the same passion and get some career advice from experts.
Elpida: Challenge my skills and identify my weaknesses. Also, meet Cyber Security specialists and get advice/ discuss with them about possible careers in the field.
How do you think more people could be attracted to cybersecurity as a career?
Ammar: Efforts must be made to attract people from an early age. Furthermore, the public needs to be educated about the field, its importance, and the work undertaken. Moreover, career paths and education paths must be expanded to allow easier learning and shifting into the field.
James: Teaching cyber security principles at a much earlier age and involving students in CTF style challenges.
Stefan: Making them aware of the importance of Cyber Security in their daily activities.
Elpida: By introducing Cyber Security and its challenges to Undergraduate IT Degrees.
