|Year:||PhD & MSc|
Please introduce the team members including the courses that you are currently studying?
Joe (PhD Computer Science)
Ric (PhD Computer Science)
James (PhD Computer Science)
Jonas (MSc Cyber Security)
Are any of you currently considering cybersecurity as a career? If so, what area?
Joe is looking to remain in Academia, with a view to moving into industry later. Ric is already a part-time cyber security consultant which he hopes to continue. Jonas is looking to become a security consultant but is currently exploring PhD options. James is looking to pursue a career in Academia.
What CTFs have you competed in before?
Joe has competed in the 2017 Inter-ACE and C2C competitions, and numerous past CTFs. The rest of the team have competed in numerous online CTFs, including the Cyberlympics qualifiers. Ric and James took part in the Cyber 9/12 policy writing competition in February.
What are you looking forward to most at Inter-ACE?
Hacking! And of course meeting other cyber-security students, and security organisations.
How do you think more people could be attracted to a career in cybersecurity?
Introducing more cyber-security education into schools would help attract future cyber-security professionals from a young age. This can extend up to undergraduate Computer Science degrees, where cyber-security training should be a requirement for future developers. It would also help if there were more clear guidelines and pathways to a cyber security career, akin to traditional careers such as architecture, law, accountancy etc.
